Naty Lopez-Holguin
We were delighted to welcome Portsmouth-based Naty Lopez-Holguin. Naty is interested in the everyday and the discarded: that which might be considered mundane or rubbish by others. For the last few years she has been mainly working with tumble-dryer fluff and based at Art Space, Portsmouth.
Before Naty’s residency started she was asking the public for donations of tumble-dryer, especially coloured fluff as apparently that is hard to come by!
Naty fully immersed herself in the out-of-season seaside town experience. As a Pompey local, she stayed in Ryde for the residency and used the time to visit Island artists, studios and art spaces. Naty had drawn on the history of the Packs building and referenced shapes and forms found in the building and from our research into the Department building.
Here is what Naty said about working in the window, “It fulfilled my expectations and more; a wonderful space, not only in size but how comfortable I felt within.”
