Laura Hathaway
Ryde Arts were excited to welcome back ‘We Are Ryde Arts’ artist Laura Hathaway in April 2022. Laura's practice explores the visual language of marks and the properties and absorbency of pigments and oils against surfaces. Laura's work focuses on the effects of layering, opacities and manipulation. At the heart of her creative exploration is her interest and intuitive pull towards the experimental process with the aim of challenging her own and others traditional ideas of painting and printmaking.
Laura also did free workshops in the Department during her time in the window residency, where people of all ages and abilities could create their own paintbrushes and mark making materials, followed by experimentation and freedom to express through mark making. They then used the marks they had made to create a collage and final painting.
“I went in without any expectations, just that I hoped to make a body of developed work. I was met with a brilliant space, felt very free to develop work. Really happy with the work I was able to develop, was really great to be able to focus on a project.”
