Katie Stone
Katie Stone was the first artist to take on W-I-P in the Window, whilst working full-time as a teacher and producing artwork whenever she was able to, she felt that this was a catalyst she needed to show herself as a professional working artist. The residency allowed Katie to truly develop and experiment her current ideas and support this life change.
For a while Katie had been developing her mark making in linocut, concentrating on texture, light and shadow mainly producing monochrome prints. Whilst keeping those elements in her work she wanted to shift her focus to incorporating colour. She wanted to use her time in the window to experiment with colour through multi-block prints and collage work, with a long term vision to create images for picture books. In the space onlookers were able to see Katie’s character development work, sketchbook work, how she created her linocuts and the printing process. Inspired by nature, folklore and traditions, Katie was working towards producing images relating to British folklore and Aesop’s fables.
